Battlestar Galactica: Razor · Jan 12, 06:43 PM
I watched Battlestar Galactica: Razor the other night, a special feature-length episode of Battlestar Galactica that sets things up ready for the fourth and final season of the series. Rather than picking up the show where it was left at the end of the third season it returns to the second and the activities on board the Battlestar Pegasus with flashback scenes to what happened to Pegasus and her crew after the Cylon attack.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this episode as the Pegasus episodes of the second season had disappointed me a little. The pace has certainly picked up since the end of the third season that had left me with mixed feelings. However, Razor does suffer a little from the fact that we already know the fate of the Pegasus, so it is hard to feel for the characters although the new character, Kendra Shaw, makes up for this somewhat by being an interesting well fleshed out character. Razor is further helped by providing an interesting explanation to how the Pegasus got their copy of Number 6 and most importantly (semi-spoiler alert) adding a spin on how the third season finale ended. As a result this retrospective episode actually ends up setting up the final season in a whole new light which should give it more than enough momentum along with all the other loose ends that need to be tied up.
Sadly due to the current writers strike in the US the fourth season hasn’t been completed and it is no longer certain whether or not it will ever get completed. This would be a real shame as it is one of the most intelligent and well written/performed shows about at the moment.
